Amer; S., El-Sayed.  The effect of different shrimp chitosan molecular weights as well as shrimp chitosan complexes (chitosan-glucose and chitosan-citric) on the quality characteristics of the stored (at 7°C±2°C and 90% RH) tomato fruits (Lycopersicum esculentum) was investigated.  Coating tomatoes with high molecular weight chitosan (H.M.C.G) significantly improved firmness and weight loss.  The lowest weight loss was found in high molecular weight chitosan-glucose (H.M.C.G) treatment followed by the fruits coated with high molecular weight chitosan (HMC) and then uncoated tomato fruits.  Both molecular weights was clear on retarding the total acidity loss especially for stored tomato fruit coated with low molecular weight chitosan, while control tomatoes exhibited a larger... We utilize an unusual data set, involving fifteen tomato growers over four years, to analyze the impact of incentive contracts on behavior. Each grower delivers processing tomatoes under a price incentives contract and for a fixed price per ton. Our comparison of the quality of the tomatoes delivered under the two arrangements confirms that growers do respond to incentive contracts by improving tomato quality, as predicted by economic theory. The comparison is not confounded by the usual contract endogeneity and simultaneity problems, due to characteristics of the processing tomato industry and our data set. The objective of this work was to establish an effective PCR protocol by testing DNA samples from distinct germplasm accessions with a primer pair designed to selectively target conserved regions present in the available CYCB sequences. This PCR optimization allowed the amplification of 1219 out 1666 bp of the gene in six taxa: S. cheesmaniae, S. peruvianum, S. neorickii, S. pennellii, S. pimpinellifolium and S. lycopersicum. N. P.; SANTOS, F. de A. M.. A cultura do tomate na Serra da Ibiapaba, no Estado do Ceará, é considerada uma das atividades agrícolas mais importantes e geradora de divisas para esta região. Entretanto, apresenta como uma das pragas chave a broca pequena, Neoleucinodes elegantalis (Guen.) (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae). Essa praga ocorre geralmente em elevadas infestações, ocasionando danos à produção em até 90%, pela destruição e apodrecimento dos frutos, levando os produtores a realizarem até duas pulverizações por semana. The EU applies a complex system of preferences for tomato imports from Morocco. Quantities are fixed and serve as entry price quotas and tariff rate quotas at the same time. This paper provides empirical evidence of i) the existence of an economic rent under the EU preferential scheme for tomato imports from Morocco of about €24-36.5 mill. per year, and ii) the distribution of that rent. Due to the structure of the Moroccan export sector as well as the EU method of allocating import licenses, it is likely that a large part of the quota rent ends up at the Moroccan side and that a dissipation of the rent in physical rent-seeking activities is limited. We observed a decrease of 10.77% in prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels in patients with benign prostate hyperplasia who were submitted to daily ingestion of tomato paste. This was an experimental rather than a controlled study with a sample of 43 men ranging in age from 45 to 75 years, all with histological diagnoses of benign prostate hyperplasia and plasma PSA levels of 4-10 ng/mL. The study highlighted an agglomeration model of industry location recognizing imperfect competition and increasing returns. The results were contrasted with those from a competitive model with conventional estimates of supply and demand elasticities. Because the assumptions of the models differed, the results also differed. Alternative hypotheses of market integration in the U.S. winter market for fresh tomatoes were evaluated using a dynamic model of spatial price adjustment. The results showed that while Florida and Mexico were integrated in the same market, a price change in one area was not instantaneously reflected in the other. Lagged effects were important with long-run integration being supported for both Florida and Mexico and short-run integration for Mexico. However, the information flow, while relatively efficient, was not symmetric. Florida was found to be dominant in the price formation process with Mexico responding to changes in the Florida price. The virus was transmitted by viruliferous whiteflies and virus infection was detected by sandwich ELISA. F2 generation showed moderate resistance with scores ranging from 1.58-3.21.
